Things to do

Welcome at Killarney!

Thing to do

These are the most popular things to see and do while in Killarney. If you don’t have a car we can organise bus trips with collection nearby. Maps of all routes listed are in the pods.

Travel the ring of Kerry

You should travel the Ring of Kerry. It’s 180k of world famous scenic views. This will take a full day. Try to take in the Skellig islands as well while on this loop. Some of the recent Star Wars films were shot there and it’s a UNESCO world heritage site. The islands can only be reached by boat and advance bookings are necessary. If you haven’t got your own car we can organise a bus trip for you with collection nearby.

Casual bike tour around Killarney

The day can be spent around Killarney and the national park. Rent a bike (€15 approx) and pedal to Muckross Lake, Muckross House, Torc Waterfall, Muckross Abbey, Ross Castle and the Cathederal. Again it should take a full day but the distance covered will be short and relatively flat (approximately 25/30k).

The Gap of Dunloe tour

The Gap of Dunloe is a magnificent trail running four miles between the McGillycuddy Reeks and the Purple mountain group. At the entrance to the gap is a famous cottage, named after a woman called Kate Kearney who died in childbirth at the age of 102!!!

You’ll get a bus to the cottage and then commence the seven-mile journey through the Gap to Lord Brandon’s cottage by trap, pony or on foot, where a light lunch can be obtained.

The towering summits of the Reeks, the changing shadows on the Purple and Tomies mountains, the silence and solitude of the rugged glen – all combine to make an unforgettable impression upon the visitor. The boats depart from Brandon Cottage approx 2.15pm and arrive later in the afternoon at Ross Castle having come through the three lakes of Killarney. On this section of the tour you will be enchanted by the stories and folklore of the boatmen. A coach will await you at Ross Castle to take you back on the short journey to Killarney town.

Trip to Dingle and Slea Head

The Dingle Peninsula has the most rugged coastline in Ireland and is scattered with ancient huts and historic buildings. This tour departs at 10.30am.A great deal of traditional Irish heritage is maintained in this Irish-speaking (Gaelic) region (a Gaeltacht), including traditional music art and crafts.

Slea Head is the most westerly point in Europe and standing there, looking towards America, instils a feeling of excitement and empathy with the millions of emigrants who took this route. There are splendid views around Slea Head, especially of the Blasket Islands. The tour returns to the coach park in Dingle at 15.15 for another brief stop. The town of Dingle is full of wonderful shops and worth a walk about.Onwards to the very famous Creans Bar in Annascaul at 15.45.This was the home of the Antarctic Explorer Tom Crean.

The day comes to an end in Killarney at Main Street at 17.30 hrs.
